Do you love a cozy Christmas atmosphere at home, but would you like to try something different than the Christmas ornaments and table decorations you've been using for years? Then get started with the most fun Do It Yourself (DIY) Christmas decorations. We'll give you three ideas to create a wonderful, personal Christmas atmosphere. How about homemade Christmas ornaments or surprising Christmas crackers for your Christmas dinner?

1. Make your own Christmas ornaments

Christmas ornaments with sprinkles

Remember those soft-serve ice cream cones with disco dip? Those brightly colored granules are now also appearing on Christmas trees, but now incorporated into a Christmas ornament. That makes your tree a feast for the eyes! Here's how to make your own Christmas ornaments: buy sprinkles you normally sprinkle on ice cream and a plastic ornament that you can open. Spread glue on the inside of the ornament. Now put a handful of sprinkles in one half, close the ornament, and shake it up!

Gleaming eye-catchers

You probably still have a few old CDs lying around. Cut them into pieces with sturdy scissors and then glue the pieces to a transparent or white (styrofoam) ornament. Let it dry completely, and you have a sparkling diamond to hang on your tree!

2. Make a Christmas wreath from Christmas ornaments

Making a Christmas wreath from Christmas ornaments is a great example of simple DIY Christmas decoration. At the same time, it's a beautiful centerpiece for your door, creating a festive first impression on your guests. If you're making a Christmas wreath from baubles, you'll need the following:

A Styrofoam wreath

Plastic baubles. How many you need depends on the size of the wreath. For a medium-sized wreath, buy about 50 baubles in different sizes.
Stiff ribbon for hanging the wreath.

Tip: Stock up on these items cheaply at stores like Action, Zeeman, and Wibra. Or go to a thrift store for inexpensive and unique baubles that not everyone has.

Here's how to do it: First, firmly attach the ribbon to the Styrofoam. Then, glue the baubles one by one to the wreath and let them dry completely. Your wreath is ready!

3. Make your own Christmas crackers

Do you love to set a beautifully decorated table for dinner? Surprise your guests this year with a small gift hidden in homemade Christmas crackers. Place them on plates and open your Christmas dinner in a festive way!

How to make Christmas crackers:

  • Start saving toilet rolls well in advance. You'll need one per person.
  • Place a small (wrapped) gift in each toilet roll.
  • Roll the toilet roll in tissue paper (this paper tears easily when opening) and tape it shut. Leave 5-10 cm on the sides.
  • Tie the ends with string.
  • Choose a nice piece of wrapping paper or other sturdy paper. Cut it to the length and width of the toilet roll and wrap it around it. Tape it shut.
  • Your homemade Christmas crackers are ready! Your guests can find their gift by pulling on the ends.
